Downtown Core Local Area Plan

The future downtown Mississauga, envisioned in the City's downtown21 Master Plan, will be a more vibrant, transit-oriented urban centre. On March 6, 2013, Council approved a new planning framework for the downtown. The legislation required to implement the framework includes amendments to the Official Plan, a new Downtown Core Local Area Plan, a zoning amendment bylaw and new built form standards.

The new framework, along with Mississauga's Official Plan, will guide development during a period of significant growth in population and jobs in downtown Mississauga. According to Ontario's 'Places to Grow' Growth Plan, Mississauga's downtown is an urban growth centre and transit hub; the number of people living in the core is expected to grow from 32,000 to 70,000 by 2031.
