Enjoy a diverse collection and free programs and activities for families all summer long at the Mississauga Library.

Book lovers, storytellers and challenge-seekers: your summer adventure is waiting at the library! Explore the collection, watch live shows, take on challenges and win prizes. There is something for everyone to enjoy.

Did you know that you can borrow video games or play kits from the library? Your library card gives you access to a wide range of activities and resources to enjoy during the summer.

Mississauga Library offers many programs, activities and events year-round. These programs help residents have fun, build community and inspire a love of reading. Best of all: library programs are completely free.

Rise to the challenge

Teens get ready, the Youth Summer Series is back for another fun summer of stories, creativity and adventure! Enjoy a wide range of programs for a chance to win prizes:

  • Read and Roam Book Challenge – Read, discover and win! Visit any Mississauga Library location until August 31 to pick up a challenge booklet. Complete reading activities for a chance to win prizes all summer long.
  • Story Slam: Writing contest – Share an original story inspired by this year’s theme, The Day the Trees Remembered, for a chance to have your writing featured at the Mississauga Literary Festival and win prizes.
  • Books & Crafts: Try out a new hobby at drop-in craft and chat sessions, including embroidery, jewelry making, calligraphy, clay creations and more.
  • Youth Author Talks and Workshops: Meet Sarena and Sasha Nanua, authors of ‘Sisters of the Snake’ and ‘Spirit Service,’ for engaging talks and interactive workshops. Learn how to build worlds, craft characters and navigate the editing process with publishers.

Programs are open to teens ages 13 and older. Funding for the Youth Summer Series is generously donated by The Friends of the Mississauga Library.

Read, collect and win

Kids, this chapter is just for you! The TD Summer Reading Club is back. Canada’s largest bilingual summer reading program makes reading fun with lots of stamps, stickers and prizes to collect.

Children ages three to 12 can sign up at any library location or online at tdsummerreadingclub.ca. Read all summer long and visit the library to collect your prizes. Complete your ballot by the end of summer and enter for a chance to win exciting prizes.

Mississauga Library joins over 2,000 public libraries across Canada to offer this program. The program supported by The Friends of the Mississauga Library, with additional contributions from Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, and support from the Active Transportation and Mississauga Recreation teams.

Families are also invited to the weekly Open Air Storytime presented by TD. Come out to the Celebration Square Amphitheatre on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. throughout July until August 12. Enjoy a diverse lineup of stories, read and performed by City of Mississauga Library staff.

Programs are drop-in and available on a first-come first-served basis. Visit the library programs page or Active Mississauga for the complete listing.

Community members attend an outdoor library storytime and performance at an amphitheatre. Presenters lead activities on stage while children and caregivers watch from the audience.

Unlock a free collection to borrow

A fun summer doesn’t have to be expensive. Your library card is your key to many free options instead of paid services. This includes:

  • Books: Choose from thousands of books, graphic novels and audiobooks in both print and digital formats.
  • Video games: Check out popular games for your Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox consoles.
  • Movies and shows: Borrow DVDs and Blu-Rays or stream movies and shows from home with free access to Kanopy and Hoopla.
  • Music: Stream top hits and classic songs through Freegal and Hoopla or borrow from a wide selection of CDs.
  • News and magazines: Read breaking news stories with free access to digital news and magazine subscriptions from around the world.
  • Online learning: Take online courses, practice for a citizenship test, improve math skills or learn a new language, all at your own pace.

You can also borrow sports equipment, life jackets, parks and museum passes, swim and skate passes, play kits and much more through the Library of Things.

Get your library card

Library cards are free to those who live, study, work or own property in Mississauga. You can also get a virtual library card to access online services. Non-residents can get a library card for a one-time fee of $40.
