City Program Cancellations and Facility Closures Due to Winter Storm

City services | January 28, 2019

As a result of a significant snow event, all City of Mississauga recreation, culture and library programs are cancelled as of 3 p.m. today and throughout the evening. Meadowvale Theatre, the Small Arms Inspection Building and the City’s museums will also be closed this evening.

Community Centres (including fitness centres), arenas and the Paramount Fine Foods Centre and libraries will remain open to the public. Rentals will continue.

In addition, two committees of City Council are cancelled. The Planning and Development Committee meeting scheduled for tonight and the Road Safety Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday morning have been cancelled.

The City’s Animal Services shelter will close at 4 p.m. instead of at 5 p.m.

As a result of the current weather, MiWay is experiencing delays on several routes. We appreciate your patience throughout the day and evening commute.

The City of Mississauga has declared a Significant Weather Event under Regulation 239/02, Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways (Municipal Act). Winter maintenance crews have been deployed to maintain road safety. Due to the significant snowfall expected, levels of service will be placed on hold for the duration of the declaration to ensure that crews can focus on areas of immediate need. Residents should exercise caution when travelling on roads and sidewalks as snow clearing may take longer to complete. Crews will focus on keeping major roads clear for the duration of the storm so that emergency vehicles and transit can operate safely. Once completed, crews will move on to clearing residential roads, priority sidewalks and bus stops.

Temporary parking permits have been suspended and new ones will not be issued until further notice. Residents are asked to remove their parked vehicles from streets so that staff and equipment can safely clear roads.
