Mississauga Students Encourage Peers to take MiWay

Today at Council, Kaamil Quidwai, grade 10 student from Meadowvale Secondary School, was named the 2018-2019 MiWay Student Ambassador of the year. Quidwai spread the word about MiWay in his school and encouraged his peers to take transit.

“Being a MiWay Ambassador provides students with the opportunity to connect with their peers and be a leader in their community. The program exercises many valuable skills and encourages creativity on how to promote public transit at their school,”

said Geoff Marinoff, Director, Transit. “This is the ninth year of the program. Each year, students continue to amaze us with their innovative efforts.”

MiWay’s Ambassador Program is a fun, creative and educational program that provides a great opportunity for Mississauga’s high school students to:

• Educate their school community about the benefits of taking public transit and earn volunteer hours
• Network with MiWay staff and other MiWay Ambassadors
• Helps students build skills, such as leadership, communication and team collaboration, positioning them for success in their future endeavours

Quidwai was awarded a PRESTO card with one-year of MiWay student rides, along with a yearly subscription to a popular music streaming app.

Council also recognized grade 10 students Resha Shetty and Rohan Mistry from Port Credit Secondary School, who were the winners of the Ambassador Program’s new Video Challenge. They created a two-minute video about travelling on MiWay to help their fellow students learn how easy it is to ride to school or anywhere they need to be. Both winners received a smart watch.
