Overview
The City has started a planning and preliminary design study for road improvements and renewals to the Central Parkway East study area.
The project is exempt under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process (amended 2024), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.
Planned improvements and renewals
Staff is considering a range of roadway improvements and design features that support transportation by various modes, including walking, cycling and public transit.
Some of the road renewals and improvements being considered for Central Parkway East include:
- Pavement repairs and resurfacing
- Curb replacements and realignments
- Streetlight pole replacements and lighting upgrades
- Widened sidewalks
- More trees, where appropriate and possible
- Transit stop improvements
- New features including:
- In-boulevard cycle tracks
- Roundabouts
- Crossrides at all intersections
- Protected intersection features (to be confirmed during the detailed design)
- Noise walls (to be confirmed during the detailed design)
The improvements emphasize road safety, aligning with the City’s approved Vision Zero Action Plan.
