Completed in 2025 City project

Changing Lanes

This project helped develop and implement new tools for staff, developers and other street providers to ensure our streets are safe and more convenient for all users.

About

The project looked at the safety and comfort of Mississauga’s streets for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and motorists by creating a new street classification system and street guidelines.

Complete Streets guidelines and policies work to ensure that multiple types of street users can be accommodated and feel comfortable and safe sharing our streets. Guidelines include:

  • Installing cycling facilities
  • Building sidewalks
  • Adding dedicated public transit lanes
  • Implementing measures to slow down traffic

Project update

A final draft of the Complete Streets Guide has been developed and an implementation strategy is under review. Recommendations from the Guide will inform updates to the Engineering Design Standards.
