In progress City project

Improving signs and maps in Downtown Mississauga

We’re helping pedestrians, cyclists, micromobility riders and drivers find their way around Downtown Mississauga more easily.

Overview

The City is testing new wayfinding resources (directional signs and maps) in Downtown Mississauga from June to October 2025. This is to make navigating downtown easier for everyone, including people who walk, cycle, ride micro-mobility vehicles and drive.

Clear and consistent signs help people move around safely and confidently. They reduce confusion and make it easier for people to explore and go to places, like local shops, restaurants and attractions. Whether you’re walking, shopping, or just visiting, good wayfinding provides everyone a better experience getting around the city.

Our goals for the new wayfinding system are to:

  • Help people find places more easily
  • Reduce barriers for people with diverse needs and preferences, such as wheelchair or stroller users
  • Make downtown easier to get around and more welcoming for everyone
  • Support walking, cycling, scooters, and transit use
  • Bring more people downtown to support local shops and businesses
  • Build a model we can use in other areas of the city in the future

What we’re doing

Starting in June, we will:

  • Ask people what information on signs helps them to find their way around and what they need
  • Use this feedback to design better, permanent signs that will be installed in the future for long-term use

During this time, you’ll find more than 30 temporary signs in Downtown Mississauga. They will cover existing, outdated signs or be on windows, walls or sidewalks.

Temporary signs will either:

  • Give directions to popular downtown destinations
  • Show where you are on a map and where you can walk to in five minutes, like parks, restrooms and bike repair stations

Get involved

Whether you live, work or study in downtown or are visiting the area, we want to know what you think.

Ways to get involved now:

  • Take a short survey: Tell us what helps you move around Downtown Mississauga with confidence. Survey closes on September 15, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.
  • Sign up for email updates: Find out about new engagement opportunities as they become available.
