Shawnmarr Park improvements

The City is proposing park improvements to Shawnmarr Park.

Overview

The City is proposing park improvements to Shawnmarr Park in Ward 1, including a tennis and pickleball court. Funding by the Government of Canada has been allocated for this project by the Ward 1 Councillor. The park improvements are expected to be completed in 2022.

The proposed park improvements will include the following features:

  • Combined tennis and pickleball court
  • 3-on-3 basketball court
  • Multi-use game courts
  • Seating area with bench and umbrella table

These improvements will enhance visitors’ experiences in the park and provide outdoor recreation and fitness opportunities in support of active lifestyles. Outdoor recreation is a supported use within the City’s Parks and Forestry Future Directions Master Plan (2019).

Frequently asked questions

Construction is scheduled for 2022.

The park and the playground will remain open during construction. The existing basketball court will be fenced and closed during construction.

The existing basketball court will be redeveloped into the proposed tennis and pickleball court and multi-use game courts. A new 3-on-3 court will be added.

The single court will be lined for both tennis and pickleball. Residents are welcome to play either sport on this court.

There will be no changes to the existing playground.
