Parking for non-residential uses

The Zoning By-law has regulations for parking areas that cover things like minimum dimensions, required number of parking spaces, surface treatment and other restrictions. Check these restrictions in Part 3 – Parking, loading and stacking lane regulations of the Zoning By-law.

Parking compliance is determined through a Zoning Certificate of Occupancy or a building permit for additions or new buildings. You don’t need a building permit to add additional parking spaces however additional approvals may be required. Please contact Transportation and Works to review your proposal.

The zoning regulations for your property might have additional restrictions for parking. Review the general provisions, and then check the zoning regulations for your property.

If something in the general provisions conflicts with the zoning regulations for your property, follow the zoning regulations.

Number of parking spaces

In addition to regular parking spots, a minimum number of spaces may be required for accessible parking and loading spaces. These requirements vary, depending on the use. The property must accommodate parking for all businesses located on the premises.

Check the number of parking spaces you need in Table 3.1.2.2 in the Zoning By-law.

Check the number of accessible parking spaces you need in section 3.1.3.1.
