Apply for a transportation network company licence

You need a licence to operate a transportation network company (TNC) such as Uber and Lyft in Mississauga.

Your licence expires annually, one year from the date it’s issued. A renewal notice will be sent to the email address on file. If no email is available, it’ll be mailed to you.

Requirements

  • The name, phone number and email of an authorized representative of the TNC
  • A list of all drivers working for the TNC including their full names, licence plate numbers and the year, make and model of their vehicles
  • Sworn declaration that all drivers have provided the required paperwork
  • Certificate of insurance with commercial general liability insurance for $5,000,000 and the City named as additional insured with an indemnity clause in favour of the City
  • Sworn declaration that the TNC will maintain and deliver data securely and ensure all drivers working for the TNC maintain driver requirements
  • A report from an independent third-party auditor, if requested

If the company is a corporation, you’ll also need:

  • Articles of incorporation or other incorporating documents (from the Province of Ontario or Government of Canada)
  • List of directors

If the company is a partnership, you’ll also need:

  • Name and address of each partner
  • Registered business address and contact information of TNC

Vehicle requirements

All TNC vehicles must:

  • Be equipped with four doors
  • Be seven model years old or newer
  • Be registered in Ontario
  • Be clean and in good repair both on the exterior and interior
  • Have working seat belts, heating, air conditioning and GPS navigation
  • Be equipped from December 1 to April 30 with snow-rated tires featuring the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) symbol

Licence fee

The licence costs $21,854.54 annually.

How to apply or renew

You can apply for or renew your licence in person or by mail. Only complete applications will be reviewed.

In person

  1. Complete the Owner Licence Application or Licence Renewal Application.
  2. Gather the required documents.
  3. Book an appointment for a new licence or licence renewal.
  4. Bring your application and required documents to your appointment.
  5. Pay the licence fee.

By mail

Mail your completed Owner Licence Application or Licence Renewal Application, the required documents and a cheque payable to the City of Mississauga in the amount of the licence fee to:
