Crossing guard program

The City’s crossing guard program helps school children from kindergarten to fifth grade cross the road, for both the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Peel District School Board.

How to get a crossing guard

If you’re concerned about the safety of school children crossing the road at a specific location you can request a site inspection.

If approved, members of Traffic Safety Council and City and School Board staff will visit the area to determine if a crossing guard is needed.

We’ll look at the conditions around the site in the 30 minute period before school begins and after school ends and also make overall safety recommendations, like adding signs or requesting parking or police enforcement.

We’ll also conduct a gap study, which looks at the number and behaviour of children and vehicles at a crossing location, and the number of safe gaps in traffic per five minute period.
