Today at Riverwood, Members of Parliament Fares Al Soud (Mississauga Centre) and Iqra Khalid (Mississauga-Erin Mills), alongside Ward 6 Councillor Joe Horneck and Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko, announced more than $8.7 million in federal funding for Mississauga through the Government of Canada’s Active Transportation Fund.
This investment will support improvements to the Culham Trail and the construction of a new pedestrian and cycling bridge in Port Credit. Together, these projects will improve connections across the city and make it easier for residents to choose active transportation.
One of Mississauga’s most popular recreational corridors, the Culham Trail welcomes more than 500,000 visitors annually. Stretching through Erindale Park and Riverwood, the trail connects residents and visitors to natural areas, neighbourhoods and key destinations across the city.
The reconstruction project will modernize nearly four kilometres of multi-use recreational trail and enhance flood protection measures. Additional amenities will also be added, such as new seating and an outlook viewing area, a bike share system, upgraded signage and landscaping.

A new 65-metre active transportation bridge is being constructed to span the Credit River between Port Credit Memorial Park and the Port Credit Royal Canadian Legion, north of Lakeshore Road. Designed exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists, the bridge will provide a safe, accessible crossing separated from vehicle traffic, linking Port Credit and the GO Station with the Mineola West neighbourhood.
The project supports the City’s efforts to enhance transportation options and strengthen connections along the waterfront. Identified as a priority through the Lakeshore Corridor Transportation Improvements study, the bridge advances the vision of the Lakeshore Connecting Communities Master Plan to improve walking, cycling and access to destinations along the Lakeshore corridor.

The Active Transportation Fund supports projects that build new and expanded networks of pathways, sidewalks, bike lanes and trails, providing affordable, greener and healthier options for Canadians to access their communities through alternative modes of transportation. The fund supports the National Active Transportation Strategy, which aims to promote active transportation and its benefits through investments in new and expanded infrastructure, while encouraging equitable and sustainable travel options.
“The Culham Trail is an important part of our community and a popular route for residents and visitors alike. These improvements will make the trail safer, more accessible and more resilient, ensuring all can continue to enjoy it for years to come. I want to thank the Government of Canada for partnering with the City on this important investment.” – Joe Horneck, Ward 6 Councillor
“For years, this bridge has been part of the vision for a more connected Port Credit. Once complete, it will provide a safe and convenient link across the Credit River, connecting residents to the GO Station, waterfront and local destinations while supporting active transportation in one of Mississauga’s most walkable communities.” – Stephen Dasko, Ward 1 Councillor
“Strong communities are healthy communities. Improvements to Culham Trail will make it easier and safer to get around Mississauga. The federal government is committed to working with municipalities and Indigenous communities across the country to build more trails, paths, and pedestrian bridges, reducing our reliance on cars and building a cleaner and better connected Canada.” – Fares Al Soud, Member of Parliament for Mississauga Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada
“As our population continues to grow, the future of transportation in Mississauga will include more walking, cycling, running, skating and rolling. The federal government is pleased to support Mississauga and communities across the country to build the paths, bike lanes, pedestrian bridges and multi-use trails that will get Canadians moving.” – Iqra Khalid, Member of Parliament for Mississauga—Erin Mills
