Canada Post may go on strike – Here’s what you need to know about City services

If a Canada Post strike occurs, it may disrupt mail services to and from the City. Make sure you’re informed about the potential impacts to you.

City services | June 2, 2025

As of May 22, Canada Post workers, who are members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), will be in a legal position to strike. Some City services may be affected if a work stoppage occurs. Here’s some information about alternate options for accessing City services during this potential disruption.

Residents are reminded that property taxes, parking tickets, and other fines must still be paid by set due dates.

Potential Service disruptions

Animal Services

Effective on the first day of the strike and for the duration of the strike, Animal Services will not mail out pet renewal notices.

Council & Committees of Council

Legislated Public Notices will be provided by personal service (to be determined by the size of the distribution.)

Public Notices are provided online.

Committee of Adjustment Public Notices can be viewed online.

Mississauga Library’s Interlibrary loan program will be paused during the strike.

Mobile Licensing

Effective on the first day of interruption, Mobile Licensing will not mail out renewal notices.

Provincial Offences Court

The public is still responsible to pay any fines on set due dates.

The following methods of payment are available:

  1. In person at any Provincial Offences office in the province of Ontario. Please visit the City’s Ticket, fines and penalties webpage to pay your provincial fines with paytickets.ca (a service fee of up to $3 will apply).
  2. Telephone payment can be made by calling the Provincial Offences court, City of Mississauga at 905-615-4500 during regular office hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday) excluding statutory holidays to make credit card payments for 3161 tickets only (code at top left of ticket).
  3. If requesting a trial date, please attend the court office named on the Offence Notice.

Residents are also encouraged to consider:

  • Delivering time-sensitive materials to the court in person.
  • Using courier or a professional process server.
  • Using the online portal on the City of Mississauga website for online Early Resolution meeting requests or pdf copies of both sides of the green ticket request with the appropriate option of early resolution selected to court.admin@mississauga.ca.
  • As per regular practice if requesting a trial date, please attend the court office named on the Offence Notice or you can send in a pdf copy only of the notice of intention to appear or copies of both sides of the green ticket requesting the trial option on the back with a signature and email address to poa.trial@mississauga.ca.
  • If you have already mailed documents or forms to the court by regular mail, the court may not be able to complete your request until the interruption ends.
  • Please contact our office at 905-615-4500 if your ticket is more than ten months old to check on the status of the ticket as we are unable to ensure that you will receive your Notice of Trial or Notice of an Early Resolution Meeting in a timely fashion. You may also attend in person at 950 Burnhamthorpe Road W., Mississauga to make inquiries about your outstanding ticket.

Property Taxes

The 2025 final tax bills for all properties were mailed on May 15 and 16. Property taxes are still due on the applicable instalment due dates depending on your individual payment options of payment by instalments or being enrolled in the City’s pre-authorized tax payment (PTP) program. Property owners are still required to pay their property taxes by the due dates in order to avoid late payment charges, despite the Canada Post labour disruption.

Billing information, instalment amounts, and account balances can be viewed online at mississauga.ca/tax under view property tax information or by contacting 311. Payment options can be viewed here. If you are enrolled in the PTP program, it is the property owner’s responsibility to ensure that you have sufficient funds in your account prior to the withdrawal. During a postal strike, payments by cheque can be made at your financial institution or dropped off in the drop boxes at the Civic Centre.

Property owners who would like to enroll in online billing (e-billing) rather than receiving paper copies of bills in the future can register here. Please note that e-billing will take effect for the next scheduled billing.

Parking tickets

The public is still responsible for paying Penalty/Parking Infraction Notices on pre-set due dates.

The following methods of payment are available:

  • Online: For Parking Penalty Notices and Parking Infraction Notices use mississauga.ca/parkingtickets (a service fee of $1.50 will apply).
  • In Person: Visit the Ontario Court of Justice, 950 Burnhamthorpe Rd. W., or Civic Centre, Cashier Desk, 300 City Centre Dr., 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday.
  • No past due notices will be mailed out until the interruption ends.

The City will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available. For more information about City services facing impacts from the Canada Post strike, call 311 (905-615-4311 outside city limits). For updates on the strike, visit canadapost.ca.
