Due to wildfires in other parts of Ontario, Mississauga experienced poor air quality and a Very High (10+) Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) last week. As a result, to support public health and safety, outdoor pools, and Mississauga Celebration Square wading pool were closed and some recreation programs were adjusted.
Based on reports from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), air quality is expected to continue improving through the day. As a result, the City’s pools and recreation programs have resumed regular hours and operations today, July 18, 2026.

Beginning July 18:
For questions about cancelled activities and refunds or rescheduled activities as a result of the pool closures and cancellations, please call 311 or email active@mississauga.ca. Outdoor permit holders can contact the Customer Service Centre at 905-615-4100 or by email at facility.rentals@mississauga.ca regarding any questions they may have.
The City will continue to share updated information as it becomes available on the Recreation and Arts & Culture websites and social media accounts.
The open-air burn restriction that came into effect on July 15 has been lifted as of July 19.
When the ban was in effect, outdoor burning was not allowed, all burn permits were cancelled, and wood-burning devices such as fire pits, chimineas, bonfires and outdoor fireplaces were not permitted. These activities can now resume.
The restriction did not apply to barcebues, cooking appliances and small cooking or ceremonial fires.

The City will continue to monitor weather reports and alerts from ECCC and will make necessary adjustments as needed as air quality conditions change.
