Get outside, get engaged, and help make Mississauga a greener place to live

Spring is in full swing! Unplug from stress and reconnect with the outdoors in Mississauga

Entertainment and activities | April 24, 2025

The weather is warming up and nature is preparing for the brighter months ahead. The spring season always brings feelings of positivity into the air, improving our mood, as we clean, get organized and refocus on what truly matters – our wellness and the environment.

While Mississauga is bustling with businesses to keep you busy and activities to keep you entertained, you’re also never too far from a local park or shared, outdoor community spaces.  Reconnecting with nature and heading outdoors is a great way to reduce stress. Walking through a trail, roaming around the waterfront or tending to a garden can lower cortisol levels, reduce anxiety, and help people slow down and take a moment for themselves – which is more important than ever as life picks up with the warmer months ahead.

In nature, we often find a quiet reset—an opportunity to recharge both mentally and emotionally. This spring, the City is encouraging you to turn that sense of renewal into action by attending a city event to help make a positive impact on yourself and your community.

Register for upcoming events led by the City of Mississauga’s Forestry team this spring:

Tree giveaways

We’re handing out free trees and shrubs for you to take home and plant in your garden if you have the space. Reserve your spot today on Eventbrite.

Public tree plantings

Every tree counts! Join a tree planting event in May or June to help us plant one million trees by 2032. Remember to register online as spots can fill up quickly.

Public nature walks

Discover Mississauga’s urban forest and natural areas by joining a guided walk. Remember to wear appropriate shoes such as hiking shoes or shoes with grip and dress for the weather. The walks are hosted by Forestry staff and registration is required.

Spring clean-up at parks

The concept of spring cleaning isn’t just limited to your personal space and yards, it also includes the city. With hundreds of parks in Mississauga, the City selects a few parks for its annual spring clean-up events. Interested in volunteering? Register on Eventbrite soon before capacity is filled. Each volunteer will receive the tools they need for cleaning so there’s no need to bring your own items.

There’s plenty of fish out there for you – in Mississauga!

Mississauga’s Lake Aquitaine received a stock of catchable-sized brook trout this week. Visitors can visit the fishing dock located next to Meadowvale Community Centre where there is plenty of parking and access to public washrooms. Before you head out, make sure you are up to date on catch and size limits by reviewing the fishing regulations in your area at ontario.ca/FishingRegulations or head to ontario.ca/FishONLine.

Although these activities are scheduled and organized by the City, residents do not need to wait for formal opportunities to make the most of warmer spring days. Head outside and find a park near you, help report litter or graffiti, support community gardens and admire public art. You can also be a nature steward at home and register your yard with the city. Being active helps improve our health and wellbeing and participating in group activities strengthens our bond with others. Overall, this helps create a more connected and sustainable city.

Mississauga looks forward to welcoming all participants to its events this spring! Anyone can participate in the listed events. Participants are welcome to join multiple events and are encouraged to keep their RSVP updated to ensure the registration list is up to date as possible.
