Your Ticket to Spring Cleaning

Entertainment and activities | April 5, 2019

The sun is shining, birds are chirping and warmer days are ahead! To help kick-start the spring season, we’ve put together some trusty tips on how you can prep your home for spring.

Recycle old batteries

Got used or unwanted batteries? Help the environment and recycle your batteries at any Mississauga Library or Community Centre. Battery recycling bins are located near the customer service area in each Mississauga Library and Community Centre. Single-use (non-rechargeable) batteries: A, AA, AAA, AAAA, C cell, D cell, 4.5-volt, 9-volt are accepted. Please ensure that the top of the battery is covered with electrical tape and drop them into the bin.

Deposit clothing or electronics to a local collection drive

From April 15-27, Mississauga residents can drop off unwanted clothing and electronic equipment to any City of Mississauga Community CentreCivic Centre and Central Library. The electronic waste will be recycled by Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES), and clothing will be reused and recycled by Diabetes Canada.

Donate items to your local library

Don’t let those unwanted books collect dust on the shelf – consider donating them to your local library to the Friends of the Library used book sales. The Mississauga Library welcomes new and gently-used donations of hardcover fiction and non-fiction books, paperbacks, children’s books, computer books, textbooks, travel books (no older than two years), DVDs and video games (released within the last five years). All book sale proceeds support the Library.

Have an old cellphone that you no longer use? The Mississauga Library now accepts mobile devices as part of CNIB’s Phone it Forward campaign to help the visually impaired.

Clear out your MiWay paper tickets

As of May 1, 2019, MiWay tickets will no longer be sold and MiWay will not have ticket agents. Now is a good time to start clearing out those paper tickets and switching to the PRESTO card if you haven’t done so already. Tickets will be accepted until December 31, 2019 and are non-refundable.
