Councillor George Carlson is a lifetime local resident, born in Cooksville in 1958. He is a direct descendant of one of Streetsville’s founders, Henry Rutledge (1797 to 1875), who also served as a local Councillor.
George attended local schools and for many years operated several small businesses in the area. He was first elected in 1985 as a School Trustee, a position he held for four terms. George was first elected Councillor in 2000 and was re-elected in 2003, 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018.
George serves our community at the City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel. He currently serves on the following City and Regional Committees:
He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Streetsville BIA and the Streetsville Cadet Centre. Over the years, George has served on the Audit Committee, Mississauga Library Board, Code of Conduct Committee, the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, the Government Relations Committee, Peel Living (Peel Housing), Housing Options for Older Adults in Peel Committee, Citizen Appointments Nominating Committee, and the Waste Management Committee.
George is a member and supporter of many volunteer groups such as the Friends of the Museums Mississauga, the Riverwood Conservancy, the Streetsville Historical Society, the Peel Children’s Aid Society, the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 139), Streetsville Cadet Community Centre, and the Mississauga Milk Fund.
As a Councillor and volunteer, George enthusiastically supports many local events such as Christmas in the Village, The Bread and Honey Festival, Canada Day, and Earth Week activities.

George lives in Ward 11 with his two sons Michael and Andrew. In his spare time, George is an avid gardener and enjoys the outdoors and renovating his heritage home.
