What is traffic calming?
Traffic calming is physical measures on the roadways used to reduce the negative effects of traffic within neighbourhoods by altering driver behaviour and improving conditions for all road users. Traffic calming enhances the safety of the City’s neighbourhoods, while maintaining access to properties and accommodating all modes of travel in a safe and appropriately designed environment.
What is the program?
The Traffic Calming Program assesses city roadways for the potential installation of physical traffic calming measures, such as speed humps and raised pedestrian crossings, to address traffic safety issues. Implementing traffic calming on City roads is an extensive data-driven process that involves evaluation and consultation with stakeholders before construction can begin. Traffic calming measures have been implemented in many locations across Mississauga, effectively mitigating speeding and aggressive driving.
