Overview
The City is reviewing its Urban Design Program. This program includes the policies, guidelines and standards that shape how buildings, streets and public spaces are designed across the city.
This review process comes at an important time as Mississauga continues to grow and evolve. The City is working to increase housing supply and respond to challenges such as affordability and climate change, while maintaining high standards for design and quality of life.
The review will identify opportunities to improve the Urban Design Program by looking at what’s working in other cities.
To see how these principles come to life, check out the 2025 Mississauga Urban Design Awards.

Develop draft recommendations and updated guidelines, informed by technical analysis and ongoing consultation with interested parties.
-
3Phase 3: Final recommendations (winter to spring 2027)
Prepare final Urban Design Program updates, recommendations, including costs associated with implementation. Continue consultation.
Project goals
The Urban Design Program review is guided by several goals:
- Deliver high-quality, livable places with well-designed buildings, streets and public spaces.
- Increase housing supply and make more efficient, affordable developments.
- Create ways to improve sustainability, climate resilience, equity and inclusion in how the city is designed and built.
- Make the program clearer, more consistent. This will enable collaboration with urban planning consultants, architects and developers.
- Align the Urban Design Program with broader City policies, including the Mississauga Official Plan 2051 and the Zoning By-law.
Get involved
Throughout the project, we want to hear from residents, industry professionals, First Nations and other groups. We will use online information, meetings and a public open house to gather feedback.
Your feedback will help shape the updated Urban Design Program so it reflects what matters most to our community and keeps Mississauga a great place to live.
