Success stories: Walmart and the ‘Sauga At Play’ program

Since 2006, Walmart Canada has partnered with the City of Mississauga to deliver ‘Sauga At Play’. This free, supervised, after-school program offers a range of sports, arts and mentorship opportunities at all City-operated community centres, five days a week.

Thanks to Walmart’s support, Youth, age 10-18, thrive within the safe, barrier-free environment the program provides. They benefit from physical activity, psycho-emotional support and social interaction. This impacts not only the well-being of participants but, also, that of their families and our communities.

Being a past participant and past mentor of the ‘At Play’ program I realize how important and vital ‘At Play’ is for the youth living here in this beautiful city. It was instrumental in me just becoming better as a person.

- Wali Shah, former Sauga At Play participant, mentor, and City Poet Laureate
