About the citizen member role

Citizen members serve a term concurrent with that of Council and retain office until their successors are appointed. At mid-term, the Office of the City Clerk will ask citizen members of committees to confirm whether they wish to carry out the balance of their term.

There are no term limits for citizen members of committees. However, Council may give preference to qualified applicants who have not had a previous opportunities to serve over those seeking re-appointment.

Citizen members of committees can submit for reimbursement as noted in the corporate policy (such as, a claim to be paid back for mileage if completing a site inspection on Committee business).

Citizen members of a quasi-judicial committee are eligible to receive a small honorarium.

Citizen members of committees are all volunteer positions.
