Animal Services investigates hundreds of reported dog attacks or bites each year. Sadly, many of these bites are sustained by children. Statistics show that most of these bites take place on or near the dog owner's property and the victim is usually a family member, friend or neighbour. It is dangerous for a dog owner to assume that their well-mannered dog is capable of handing any situation agreeably. Pet owner's love and care for their pets as valuable family members but must not make the mistake of allowing this attachment to cloud their judgement where safety is concerned. With knowledge and common sense, dog bites can be prevented.
