Burnhamthorpe Community Centre, located on the eastern edge of Mississauga on Gulleden Drive, is undergoing a redevelopment project to improve the quality of recreational services provided to residents, while implementing higher accessibility and green building standards.
The redevelopment will include the renovation of existing infrastructure to address population growth and changing demographics in the area. It will also involve the construction of a new addition that will feature a state-of-the-art aquatic centre and equipment-based fitness space.
Due to site constraints and design requirements, the addition will be connected to the north side of the existing building, which includes the area on the northeast corner, currently occupied by the Burnhamthorpe outdoor rink. Subject to community consultation, a new refrigerated rink will be added to Gulleden Park (a park near Burnhamthorpe Community Centre) as part of the planned park redevelopment that is aligned with the building’s re-opening.

Grand re-opening ceremony
The redevelopment of the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre was informed by several community engagement exercises, including Recreation’s Future Directions Master Plan (2019), Youth Plan and Older Adult Plan consultations. Additionally, a public information session was held on the outdoor rink at Burnhamthorpe Community Centre in October 2020. Feedback from residents who joined us at this information session was appreciated, collected and consolidated:
- Community presentation boards
- Public open house comments
- Construction Letter to Residents – February 24, 2021
In October 2021 and May 2022, the City held virtual community meetings to seek resident input on programs and services that will be offered at the new facility. Feedback on the proposed facility accessibility, programs and services was also collected through online surveys.
Gulleden Park updates
While the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre redevelopment project advances, the City has also started the redevelopment process for nearby Gulleden Park. Residents in the area are encouraged to share feedback during public engagement opportunities to help the City better understand what type of park experience and amenities would best serve the community. Sign up to receive news alerts on the Gulleden Park project page.
The City is commissioning playful, engaging and accessible public art as part of the redevelopment. The artwork will be the first in the City’s permanent collection to integrate accessibility as a core value and essential component of the visitor’s experience. Mississauga residents are invited to review the five shortlisted public art proposals and provide feedback to the art selection committee to consider. Review and provide your feedback on the public art proposals on the Public Art art Burnhamthorpe Community Centre project page.
