What documents, approvals and fees you need to apply for a taxi driver’s licence or a taxi owner’s licence in Mississauga.

You can apply for a taxi driver’s licence online or log in to manage your licence application.

Manage licence Start application

To apply for a taxicab driver’s licence, you’ll need to submit:

  • Driver/Operator Licence Application
  • Proof that you’re at least 18 years old
  • Proof of Canadian citizenship, landed immigrant status or a valid work permit
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence, Class G minimum
  • Ontario driver’s record completed in the last 30 days
  • Original criminal record search issued within 60 days of application by Peel Regional Police or other police service in Ontario
  • Name of the taxi brokerage you’re working for
  • A photo of you, taken by us if you apply in person or uploaded by you if you apply online. Photos must:
    • Be clear, sharp and in focus with no shadows or glare
    • Have your face and shoulders centred in the photo, looking at the camera with a neutral expression

Licence fee

Applying for a new taxi driver’s licence will cost $206.35. Fees are payable by cheque, debit, Visa, Mastercard or Amex.


Renewing a taxi driver’s licence

Your licence will expire annually on your birthday. A renewal notice will be mailed to the address we have on file for you.

To renew your licence, you’ll need to submit the following documents and pay the renewal fee:

  • Licence Renewal Application
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence, Class G minimum
  • Ontario driver’s record (provided by the Mobile Licensing Office and included in your renewal fee)
  • Original criminal record search completed within 60 days of the renewal date, if you’re an “active driver”

Drivers who are not currently active (non-driving status) won’t need a criminal record search.

Renewal fee

The fee to renew your licence is $186.98.

If you don’t renew your taxi driver’s licence within one year of the expiry date, you’ll have to reapply as a new applicant.

Renew licence in person

Book an appointment to submit your documents and pay your fee in person at the Mobile Licensing Office. You’ll only be admitted to the building if you have a scheduled appointment.

If you’re late by 10 minutes or more, your appointment will be cancelled and you’ll need to reschedule.

 

No new taxi owner licences are being issued at this time. You can purchase an existing taxi owner’s licence privately from an existing owner.

Licence requirements

To apply for a taxicab owner’s licence you’ll need to submit:

  • An Owner Licence Application completed by the business owner, partner, president or an authorized agent (if applying as a corporation, the applicant must hold 51% of the voting rights).
  • Articles of incorporation and/or business registration documents, if applying as a company
  • Provincial permit for the vehicle
  • Original criminal record search must be on file
  • Certificate of insurance with a minimum $2 million coverage and endorsed to the City of Mississauga
  • Lease agreement, if vehicle is leased
  • A copy of the motor vehicle liability insurance card and either:
    • A Ministry of Transportation vehicle inspection report that shows the vehicle has been accepted within the previous 60 days
    • A safety standard certificate issued within the previous 60 days

Your vehicle must be inspected at the Mobile Licensing Office before your licence can be issued.

Licence fees

A taxi owner’s licence issued from priority list will cost $1,155.32.

Transferring a taxi owner’s licence from a previous owner will cost $1,430.09.

Fees are payable by cheque, debit, Visa, Mastercard or Amex.

Renewing an owner’s licence

Your taxi owner’s licence will expire every year on February 28. A renewal notice will be mailed to the address we have on file for you.

If you’re a driver as well as an owner, your taxi driver’s licence will also expire on February 28.

To renew your licence, you’ll need to submit the following documents and pay the renewal fee:

  • Licence Renewal Application
  • Certificate of insurance endorsed to the City of Mississauga
  • Valid master business name registration, if applicable

Renewal fee

The fee to renew your taxi owner’s licence is $514.27.

If you don’t renew your taxi owner’s licence within one year of the expiry date, you’ll have to reapply as a new applicant.
