At Council today, the City of Mississauga received the Canadian Award for Financial
Reporting (CAFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2006
Financial Report. This is the 10th time that the City has received the Canadian Award for
Financial Reporting.
We are proud to be recognized by GFOA once again, said Commissioner of Corporate
Services and Treasurer Brenda Breault. This award highlights the Citys reputation
for being a leader in prudent financial management and government accounting, and is the
highest form of recognition that a government entity can receive for financial
reporting.
The award was presented by Acting Mayor Pat Saito to Director of Finance Rob Rossini and
Manager of Financial Services Mark Beauparlant.
Breault added that the CAFR program was established to encourage municipal government
throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and
technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. Attaining this achievement represents
a significant accomplishment by a municipal government and its management.
The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving 15,000 government finance
professionals in the United States and Canada, with offices in Chicago, Illinois and
Washington, D.C.
Mississauga is Canadas sixth largest city with a population of more than 700,000. With
well-established infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities, the City is considered to be
an employer of choice, delivering quality municipal programs and services to its citizens.
Mississauga is a dynamic, diverse, and progressive municipality, known for its economic
strength and for being recognized as Canadas safest city.
