City Manager Janice Baker Recognized for Excellence in Municipal Finance

Sep 26, 2011

The Municipal Finance Officers Association of Canada (MFOA) presented Mississauga City Manager and CAO, Janice Baker with the MFOA Excellence in Municipal Finance Award at the Annual Conference last week.

The award recognizes Baker for her “leadership in the field of municipal finance,” according to MFOA.

“With over 20 years of municipal government and fiscal administrative experience Janice has demonstrated excellent financial leadership in the communities in which she has worked and through her involvement in professional and community boards,” said Dan Cowin, Executive Director, MFOA.

“This award is especially meaningful as it confirms Mississauga’s reputation for excellence in financial planning and fiscal prudence,” said Baker.

Baker became City Manager and CAO of the City of Mississauga in 2005. She joined the City in 1999 as Commissioner of Corporate Services and Treasurer.

As Canada's sixth largest city, Mississauga is home to 734,000 residents and 55,000 businesses, including 63 Fortune 500 companies with Canadian head offices or major divisional head offices. A diverse, progressive and award-winning municipality located on the shores of Lake Ontario in the heart of the Greater Toronto Area, Mississauga is "Leading Today for Tomorrow" by focussing on delivering services, implementing its Strategic Plan, delivering value for money, maintaining infrastructure and continuing to be an employer of choice.
